Berserker Weapons are weapons used by the Berserker Tribe during the series.

History[]

Berserker weapons are seen throughout the Dragons: Defenders of Berk TV series, when Dagur the Deranged, young chief of the Berserker Tribe, attacks the Dragon Riders and Berk. Many Berserker soldiers and sailors wield and operate the weaponry.

Berserker weaponry is seen again in both Dragons: Race to the Edge, Season 5 and Season 6 when episodes take place on Berserker Island. In "Something Rotten on Berserker Island", stationary catapults are seen, as well as various hand-held weapons of the soldiers. The catapults are again seen - in use - in "King of Dragons, Part 2".

List of Weapons[]

  • Axes: Berserkers also has fairly plain double-headed axes with no adornment which are weapons' of warfare. They all have a relatively short wooden handle. Dagur's Axe blades are slightly unusual - the blade on one side has a long lower edge, while the blade on the other side has an elongated upper edge. It is similar to other Berserker Axes but the handle is shorter. Dagur's Axe is typically a background object and does not figure into the story, but Dagur does has his own with him in many episodes.
  • Bolas: Berserkers also have bolas. They were used in "The Night and the Fury", by Dagur after learning that Hiccup and his father lied to him, used one to entangle Toothless in order to kill him, but Hiccup freed him and defeated Dagur.
  • Crossbows: The crossbows are the main weapon the Berserkers use, mostly due to the fact that it is Dagur dragon hunting weapon of choice during the episode "The Night and the Fury" and he is their chief. The Berserkers crossbows are similar to other crossbows seen in the franchise, as they are large and shoot arrows. They are large and have an ammunition loading mechanism, where it can only shoot one arrow at a time before manually reloading.
  • Catapults: One of the main weapons are the catapults, used to launch boulders towards dragons. Large catapults are stationed around Berserker Island on sea stacks and cliffs. The catapults can fling large boulders, as well as flammable objects.
  • Daggers: Berserkers also have several plain small knives/daggers with no special adornment. They are short and sharp and can be mistaken for knives. They were weapon of warfare and often used by Dagur in Riders/Defenders of Berk and Dragons: Race to the Edge, where he was the only one seen using them when battling the Dragon Riders. After reforming he used them to avoid a Dragon Hunter trap in "Enemy of My Enemy" and later used them to attack the Dragon Hunters' shipyard in "Family on the Edge".
  • Dragon Root Arrows: After becoming allies of the Dragon Hunters, the Berserkers start to use arrowheads laced with Dragon Root, as shown in "The Zippleback Experience". They also used the Dragon Hunters traditional bow-and-arrow device.
  • Grappling Chains: Chains made out of dragon proof metal are fired at downed dragons from a distance. They are strong enough to withstand the strength of dragons. They have grappling hooks and when fired, they coil around the dragon. The chain and the winch are also made of dragon fire proof metals. Dagur almost launch one of the chains with his bare hands at Fishlegs in "Have Dragon Will Travel, Part 1" and were use again in "Team Astrid".
  • Maces: Berserkers also have Maces. They are similar to any other maces in the franchise. One was used in "A View to a Skrill, Part 1" where a Berserker used it to attack Bucket but Bucket just shrugged it off and Berserker just jumped into the water.
  • Nets: The Berserkers also had nets to capture dragons. They used one to capture a Rumblehorn in "Team Astrid".
  • Skrill: As told by Stoick and seen in "A View to a Skrill, Part 2", the Berserkers can actually control a Skrill into shooting lighting at command. Though the Berserker Tribe does not have any captive Skrills at the start of the TV series, historically Berserkers used to subdue and tame Skrills by simply entrancing them with a metal dagger, as told by Viggo Grimborn in "Triple Cross".
  • Spears: The Berserkers also use a type of spear that appears to have a blade split into two parts at the end. Hiccup is also seen using it to attract lightning in the episode, "When Lightning Strikes". This type of two-pronged spear is seen again in "Something Rotten on Berserker Island". However, Berserker soldiers are also seen with simpler single-pointed spears as well.
  • Swords: Swords are also occasionally seen used by the soldiers in the background. They are simple broadswords with no decoration. The Berserker soldiers and Dagur (before Race to the Edge) are often seen with a broadsword strapped to their back, but Dagur prefers hunting with a crossbow.
  • Shields: The Berserkers also have shields that they carrying a shield on their back. Their shields have the Berserker crest painted across it, though Dagur prefers full on offense, claiming that he "never felt the need to hide in battle". Although he used one in "Team Astrid" to protect himself against a Nadder spine.
