Cressida Cowell is the author of the How to Train Your Dragon book series. As a child, she grew up on a small, uninhabited island off the west coast of Scotland. She spent her time writing stories, fishing and searching for dragons. She had been convinced that there were dragons living on the island, and has been fascinated by them ever since.

Cowell now lives in London and is married to her husband, Simon, and has three children: her daughters Maisie and Clementine, and her son Alexander.
