On August 7, 2012, an our-long sneak peak was premiered containing 2 episodes (How to Start a Dragon Academy and Viking for Hire) that was never aired in the actual series. These episodes were indeed extras and did however contain information on how the Dragon Academy was started. The original air date for the series started with the episode Animal House followed by The Terrible Twos the next week. See this article for an episode guide.

Plot
After Hiccup Horrorendous Haddock III discovered dragons could be trained, the island of Berk appeared to be safe, untill its residents realized how many dragons there actually are! Now the only option is to train them all!
Through their training, the kids are finding out the cool things dragons can do. Not only will they learn more about their dragons, they’ll also discover new ones and battle against enemies as they explore worlds they never dreamed existed.[3]Also, the relationships between Hiccup and Stoick, Toothless, and Astrid will be further expanded upon.
The first season is known to have 20 episodes[4] and a second season has already been confirmed[5].

- In one episode named Hiccup's Big Adventure[unverified information], Stoick receives his own dragon: a Thunderdrum name Thornado.
- In episode 10 of season 1, a new character named Heather is introduced.
- Another character named Mulch is also introduced.
- Alvin the Treacherous from the books makes an appearance.
- Toothless will be the only Night Fury in Season 1.
- There will be a new dragon named Torch, a baby Typhoomerang, whose name is a cross between typhoon and boomerang.
- Ruffnut and Tuffnut's dragon is confirmed with the name Barf and Belch.[7]
- An exclusive one hour sneak peak was aired on August 7th.
- Alvin the Treacherous is introduced with a 2 part episodes. These are episodes 5&6.
