The color of a Typhoomerang's egg determines what color the dragon will be. The egg looks rather unique, as it has swirls all over its surface.
Hatchling to Adult[]
Typhoomerangs are very large dragons, and they come in a variety of colors covering the whole spectrum. They have two large horns and orange eyes. They look like a mixed breed of a Monstrous Nightmare and a Timberjack.

Titan Wing Typhoomerangs look almost exactly like their adult counterparts, with few differences. A Titan Wing Typhoomerang is mainly black, with some grey patches around its wings. The tip of its horns and parts of its belly, as well as their wing fingers are colored red. Their legs also have red claws.
Abilities[]
Firepower[]
The Typhoomerang's fiery breath resembles a large typhoon that can burn anything in its path except for those that remain right in the middle of it. This implies that the fire may not be intensely hot as none of the Riders were hurt when flying straight through the fiery tornado. A single shot of these flames spread continuously for several seconds, and reach hundreds of meters from the dragon's mouth. Typhoomerangs are also able to cloak themselves in a veil of flames, similar to how Monstrous Nightmares cover themselves in flames, and perform a drill-like lunge towards their foes.
Typhoomerangs can launch into the air and fire their flames in a spiraling manner, which they use to surround and trap foes and potential prey. The flames spiral closer and closer until they eventually engulf and scorch the target, as shown when Torch's Mother caught and killed a wild boar. A Typhoomerang's flames leave scorch marks on the ground, which apparently increase the fertility rate of the surrounding ground, enough so as to stimulate increased plant growth in the area.
Due to reasons unknown, consuming an eel recharges a Typhoomerang's shot count or increases their shot limit by an unknown amount, making them one of the few dragons that are able to recharge their shot limits immediately.
Typhoomerangs are also able to emit a shower of sparks from both their mouths and backs. The display is almost as dazzling as fireworks, and can be produced during flight, by adults as well as juveniles. These sparks leave burn marks in the ground, which may reveal how old the dragon is, how big it is, and where it went — similar to the rings in a tree.
Strength and Combat[]
Typhoomerangs possess remarkable physical strength, which, when combined with their substantial size and weight, establishes them as one of the most powerful non-alpha dragons known to Vikings. They are capable of extinguishing forest fires with the force generated by the flapping of their massive wings, and can uproot trees with ease simply by walking into them. Furthermore, they can effortlessly carry larger dragons such as the Hideous Zippleback, as well as medium-sized dragons like the Night Fury, on their backs without displaying any signs of strain or exertion, even when accommodating the additional weight of two slim teenage individuals and third slim teenage with their talons. In combat, Typhoomerangs demonstrate the ability to overpower and inflict severe injuries on formidable dragons, like the Razorwhip.
Typhoomerangs use their Stoker Class temperament to attack foes and use their size, strength, and relentlessness to outfight most opponents. They use their massive wings to both cause huge gusts of wind and form shields to protect them from most attacks. Their long tail is also use to whack their opponent as adult Torch did to Toothless when they reunited. Being a Stoker Class dragon that can manipulate fire and air to attack, Typhoomerangs can use their large, powerful wings to create a powerful blast of wind, which Torch used this to help Toothless and Barf and Belch redirect the forest fire before Hiccup ordered him to use the combined gathered wind to separate the flames, extinguishing them.
As shown by Torch as a baby, baby Typhoomerangs have razor sharp talons on their wings that can cut through paper and has incredible jaw strength, as both Ruffnut and Tuffnut were reacting in pain when Torch bit their nose. Torch was able to bite Toothless' tail, causing him a brief roar in pain after Toothless accidently tail swiped him after hearing his mother.
Speed and Agility[]
As shown by Torch, as a baby, Typhoomerangs have great speed and reflexes. This is shown shown when Toothless threw Torch aside, and before Toothless could even turn his head, Torch had returned. Torch also swiftly stole all of Toothless' fish before he even noticed. As adults, they seem to lose their original speed and agility, but in flight their large wingspan makes them fast enough to be able to steadily pursue even the fastest dragons, like a Night Fury.
Typhoomerangs are quite flexible, sharing similar stature with the Timberjack. Typhoomerangs are perfectly able to fold their huge and powerful wings together, such as when Torch gave a hug to his beloved, old trainer.
Endurance and Stamina[]
Typhoomerangs are capable of surviving crashing into multiple obstacles without much injury and are capable of enduring multiple shots and physical attacks from other dragons, such as Gronckles and Hideous Zipplebacks. Typhoomerangs also are capable of relentlessly pursuing their targets for long periods of time, showing no sign of fatigue or muscle strain.
As an adult, Torch is able to use his enormous wings to shield Hiccup and Toothless from being scorched alive and another Typhoomerang used it to resistant the receive blasts from other dragons like Gronckles.
Eel Consumption[]
Being immune to Eel Pox, Typhoomerangs are able to consume eels without suffering any of the ill effects caused by the Pox, making them one of the only three known species capable of eating eels.
Intelligence[]
As shown by Torch, Typhoomerangs can learn commands and hand signals, such as lighting up with fire, "roar", "wing raise", and "spin". With the last two, Torch helped the Berkians clear a big forest fire.
Weaknesses[]
Lacking Agility[]
Due to their large size, adult Typhoomerangs have trouble making sharp or sudden turns while in flight, needing more time to coordinate their moves, with failure to do so often resulting in their crashing into nearby obstacles or landing prematurely.
Tornado Fire Opening[]
Their spiraling jets of flame are tornado-like in structure and sport a non-fiery center, which grows along with the flame the further it gets from the Typhoomerang. This opening can eventually get large enough for large dragons, such as Hideous Zipplebacks and Monstrous Nightmares, to fly through.
Behavior and Personality[]
Typhoomerangs are high strung, hot-headed and passionate dragons, and are extremely protective of their offspring and rather territorial. They use their spiral jets of flame to mark their territories, or as mating displays. Typhoomerang younglings tend to grow up very fast. Typhoomerangs tend to sleep and rest in caves and caverns that litter their forest home. Also like most dragons, they protect smaller creatures by folding their wings tightly into a cocoon-like casing.
When hunting for food, Typhoomerangs use their flame vortex to trap and kill prey. In addition, Typhoomerangs have been known to hunt for aquatic prey (eels in particular) by skimming the water's surface and snagging their catch with their mouth. According to Titan Uprising, the songs of Terrible Terrors are soothing to the anxious nature of Tense Typhoomerangs living in and around Berk Forest.
During the mating ritual, both male and female Typhoomerangs engage in a behavior reminiscent of birds of prey. They link their talons together and perform a coordinated descent, holding onto each other while in flight. Interestingly, they exhibit a unique behavior where they utilize their fire multiple times during this descent. After the first descent, they halt just before reaching the ground and then repeat the process, descending once again while still linked by their talons, accompanied by the use of their fire.
Training[]
Training a Typhoomerang is easiest when the dragon is young. As a baby, they are rather impressionable and trustworthy, as shown when Torch became inseparable from the Dragon Riders after they saved him. However, if one manages to successfully catch its attention and prove that they are of no harm, the Typhoomerang will slowly bond with them.
According to Wild Skies, the Typhoomerang is unable to be ridden due to its fire cyclone abilities. However, this has been countered in multiple other Franchise media, such as Hroar riding Torch in "The Stowaway" and in "Zippleback Down", where Hiccup, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, and even their dragons, Toothless and Barf and Belch, rode Torch.

In "The Terrible Twos", the Typhoomerang was the first new species of dragon found by the Berk Dragon Training Academy. A baby Typhoomerang was accidentally found by Fishlegs and Meatlug, and forced them to crash land. Fishlegs described it as "a flaming squirrel". It was then found by Hiccup and Toothless. Upon discovering that it was a new species, Hiccup took it home with him, much to Toothless' dismay.
Returning home, Stoick named the dragon Torch after he lit the fire pit. Torch starts to annoy Toothless, stealing his dinner and bed, making it look like Toothless is jealous. That night, Toothless hears furious roars coming from the forest. When he goes to investigate, he soon discovers that Torch's Mother is also looking for her baby.
The next day, the riders take Torch to the Dragon Academy and document him in the Book of Dragons, while learning that he has razor-sharp claws, and is the first and only dragon that eats eels. Snotlout was eager to name it, coming up with various names, such as "Big Wing", "Big Span", "Big Wingspan", "Sharp Claw", "Razor Feet", "Razor-Sharp-Claw-Talon-Feet", and even "Eel Eater" as they recorded facts about this new creature. They also discover that it flies by setting itself on fire and spinning, leaving a burn mark behind. Seeing how it spins like a typhoon and returns like a boomerang, Fishlegs dubs the new dragon "Typhoomerang".
Much later, the group discovers a large part of the forest destroyed, with a great swirling marking in the middle. They concluded that it was caused by an adult Typhoomerang. Hiccup finally realizes that this was the reason that Toothless tried to warn him about. Torch's mother suddenly appears and starts to chase Hiccup, Toothless and Torch. Hiccup and Toothless, however, manage to force the mother in a crash landing and Torch is reunited with his family.
Dragons: Defenders of Berk[]
In "Live and Let Fly", another Typhoomerang was found when the riders investigated a burn mark of said dragon.
In "The Night and the Fury", Fishlegs comes across one at Dragon Island.

During the events of "The Eel Effect", Hiccup, Toothless, Fishlegs, and Meatlug meet a wild Typhoomerang at Eel Island, which is a perfect habitat for the dragon species. The specimen attacks them but is driven off by Fishlegs and Meatlug.

Season 1[]
In "Have Dragon Will Travel, Part 1", Heather mentions that after her time on Berk, she found a Razorwhip, Windshear, that got into a fight with a Typhoomerang. Though she was able to fight it off, Windshear was badly wounded by it.

Snotlout, while searching for Astrid, chanced upon an angry Typhoomerang on an island, only to be chased out of its cave.
In "Maces and Talons, Part 2", several Typhoomerangs were caught by Viggo Grimborn. They were chained and harnessed and the hunters commanded them to shoot fire at Hiccup and the gang. The Riders swiftly evades the flames by flying through the hollow fire jet. They eventually proceeded to free the Typhoomerangs.
Dragons: The Nine Realms[]
Season 7[]
In "In the Cards", two Typhoomerangs leave the Hidden World and escape to the surface to begin their mating ritual dance; however, one notices the fake eels near ICARIS and begins to start biting and eating them, thinking they're real. It then spits a lot of them out half-chewed, realizing they're fake, which makes it leave a trail behind and creates a few scorch marks into the forest. While the Dragon Riders look for the escaped dragon and begin arguing, they notice a large burning light in the distance, and as they approach it, they see a giant amber female Typhoomerang. Feeling threatened, the Tyhoomerang tries looking for its mate; however, the riders, although struggle at first, manage to contain it and gently land it back down. When it's on the ground, Tom remembers that he read about Typhoomerangs and how they're not afraid of eels. As he tries to calm it down, it then calls out for its mate to help her, and then a larger red male Typhoomerang arrives to save the female. It blasts the riders around a wall of fire, preventing them from getting to their dragons. The Typhoomerangs then make their way to ICARIS to perform their mating dance by setting themselves on fire and descending to the ground right on top of Rakke Town. When the riders return and begin arguing again, Thunder and the other dragons decide to handle the situation themselves. The dragons start blasting at the two mates then lead and chase them over the fissure, where they allow the Typhoomerangs to do their courtship dance safely and head back to the Hidden World.
Season 8[]
In "Ragnarok: Part 1", when discussing the seriousness of the threat of Jörmungandr, May recalls the time the courting Typhoomerangs almost crashed into Rakke Town.

DreamWorks Dragons: Wild Skies[]
The Typhoomerang can be found at Wild Dragon Cliff. Upon entering the area, several egg shells and burn marks can be seen. Training this dragon unlocks the "Flaming Cyclone" achievement.
Dragons: Rise of Berk[]
In Rise of Berk, the Titan Wing Typhoomerang design was introduced. Torch, his mother, and his siblings also appear. In addition, several game-exclusive individuals appear, such as Skyfire, Pyre-Flier, and Primal Broadguard.

Trivia[]
The official measurements given by DreamWorks Animation do not appear to be realistic when considering the relative sizes seen within the Franchise. Based on the model sheet for the average Typhoomerang, this dragon should be "109 feet 2 inch (33.3 meters) long" and have a wingspan of "201 feet 1 inch (61.1 meters)".- In Wild Skies, once the Typhoomerang is trained, the player is not visible on its back. This is due to it being stated in the Dragon Manual that they are unrideable. However, it was revealed in "Zippleback Down" that they can be ridden.
- Typhoomerangs apparently grow very fast, as Torch became a fully-grown adult in only a few months. However, this could likely be an illogic used for plot continuity.
- It is strange that Viggo and Dagur knew the name "Typhoomerang", due to the name being established by the riders. The same problem occurs with Ryker knowing the name "Night Terror". This is most likely a mere consistency error within the Franchise.
- The Typhoomerang's ability to fertilize soil with its scorch marks is similar to how new trees are able to grow after a forest fire.
- Although Typhoomerangs are trainable, they cannot be ridden because of their fire whirling ability, unless the rider is wearing fireproof armor.
- Despite appearing in The Nine Realms, it is unknown which realm Typhoomerangs are native to. However, it could possibly be the Fire Realm due to their fire-spinning technique.
