How to Train Your Dragon Wiki

Special Herbs are seen in the DreamWorks Dragons Franchise, particularly in several games. They are first mentioned in How to Train Your Dragon and later mentioned in Dragons: Titan Uprising.

Description[]

Herbs are a broad blanket term for any plant that is thought to have medicinal properties, mainly for humans. Any part of the plant can be used. Many plants listed under Flowers, or on individual pages can also function as herbs. Likewise, many vegetables or Fruits can also have medicinal properties. The medicinal properties have often been inferred through history and long tradition and may not have received rigorous scientific testing. Still other herbs mentioned may be specific to the DreamWorks Dragons Franchise, or be used to treat dragon ailments or enhance their health.

In the Franchise, various specified and unspecified herbal flora are used for medicine or wellness boosts for both dragons and humans. Herbs also comprise the diet of the Buffalord dragon, though specifically what types are not specified, or whether these herbs are just preferred by the dragon or essential to its diet.

Herbs Seen in the Franchise[]

Haste Herb[]

The leaves of the haste herb are green and shaped like fans, reminiscent of gingko tree leaves. In the How to Train Your Dragon (game), Nintendo DS version, it helps a dragon gain energy faster during a battle.

Shield Herb[]

The shield herb is bright yellow-green with broad, pointed leaves. It protects a dragon from the next attack with a "shield" effect. It is encountered in the Nintendo DS version of the How to Train Your Dragon (game).

Turmeric[]

Turmeric is a tropical plant related to ginger. It’s fleshy rhizome harvested for use as a culinary seasoning, dye, and medicinally. Turmeric is said to be anti inflammatory, but scientific study has shown that little of the active ingredients are bioavailable.

Wrath Herb[]

The wrath herb has narrow, lance-shaped leaves with a yellow and brown color. It gives a dragon better offense during a battle with a "wrath" effect. This herb is only seen in the Nintendo DS version of the How to Train Your Dragon (game).

Appearances[]

Dragons: Race to the Edge, Season 3[]

In the episode, "Buffalord Soldier", the Buffalord is introduced and said to have a specific diet of herbs. These herbs, when freshly combined in the mouth of the Buffalord with its saliva, produce a medicine that can treat the Scourge of Odin disease in humans. It is unclear what herbal combination comprises this remedy.

Games[]

How to Train Your Dragon (game) (DS Version)[]

Herbs are awarded from winning dragon battles and completing quests, and can be used toward enhancing the player's dragon abilities in battle.

Dragons: Titan Uprising[]

Healing herbs are mentioned in the description of the Deathgripper Sappheral, where Thordis Skallagrimsdottir used them to restore Sappheral back to health.

After three desperate weeks of hiding from these dangerous predators, Thordis discovered the injured Sappheral, whose wing had been crippled in a battle with another dragon. His wounds were festering and he was close to death, but Thordis nursed him back to health with her knowledge of healing herbs. [src]
