How to Break a Dragon's Heart is the eighth and most recent book in the How to Train Your Dragon book series by Cressida Cowell. It was released in 2009.

Camicazi had dissapeared sailing into the Ulgithug Territories, and every tribe is searching for her. The story starts with the Hooligans Tribe are looking for a safe place to sleep. They accidentally sink the boat and camp on the beach. Snotlout warns Hiccup of a ghost lurking neaby. The Tribe finds a large throne,long abandoned, with the Hooligan coat of arms on it. stoick claims it. That night, Hiccup wakes up, and is very uneasy about the Throne. In fact someone's sitting there! The Hooligans are taken hostage by the Uglithug Tribe. UG the Uglithug, King of the Mainland and Chief reports that someone has been sending love letters to his daughter.
I Fishlegs has been sending love letters to Tantrum O'Ugerly, but if he admits, he will be killed, and if no one admits, UG will anyone here who isn't married,(Which is of the rest of the tribe). So Hiccup admits instead, and, since he is son of a chief, is given an Impossible Quest - Collect honey from Berserk Island. However, Fishlegs' Berserk tendencies kick in, and he goes to collect the honey. However, then his Berserk tendencies stop, and he becomes very afraid. This attracts Scarers, blind dragons which use fear to guide them to their prey. Hiccup follows Fishlegs, but they are both captured, along with many other Tantrum O'Ugerly fiancees. The Chief Berserk's head chiefAlphonse reveals to be Alvin the Treacherous! Eventually Hiccup escapes, but is locked up by Alvin the Treacherous, with Alvin's Mother. Alvin's mother, tells Hiccup the story of his ancestor with the same name. Hiccup the II was abandoned by Grimbeard, his father (Grimbeard was cursed by his wife Chinhilda for doing this). Hiccup II was raised by Grimler Dragons, along with his foster brother, Furious. Grimbeard finds them and raises them, but Hiccup's jealous brother Thugheart, tricks Grimbeard into thinking that Hiccup is making a rebellion. Grimbeard kills Hiccup, but when he found out the truth, he was filled with sorrow. Hiccup was buried by Furious. Grimbeard banished Thugheart to the Outcast Lands ( Thugheart was also helping the Uglithugs) and buried his treasure and died. The Witch tries to kill Hiccup.
Hiccup eventually escapes, and, by following a trail of winkles, finds and frees Camicazi. Together they return to rescue Fishlegs and the other fiancees, but Hiccup is caught. He is then dropped down to be fed to Furious, a Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus. However, Hiccup escapes being eaten by talking to Furious. They rescue the fiancees, and Humungusouly Hotshot defeats the Berserks. Unfortunately, Furious also escapes,setting fire to Berserk, causing Alvin and his mother to fall in the flames. Furious says he will lead a dragon rebellion against the vikings. At the end, Humungous married Tantrum, and left the jar of honey at UG's castle, and stole the Hooligan Throne and gave it to Stoick. (UG stole the throne in the first place.)
Although, Tantrum did not share Fishleg's love, she admired his poetry on the love letter, and encourages Fishlegs to be a poet. Also, it turns out UG was planning for Hiccup to die. Hiccup decides that he'll be ready for Furious. Hiccup warned that the Tribe to not use the Throne, it's unholy aura creeps them out.
Hiccup believes that Furious can heal his broken heart, for now...
