Aye, and as you know, it will need to be present tomorrow at Berk's secret matrimonial site, the Isle of Frigga, to chop down the ceremonial birch for this union to be official, so you, Snotlout, will be delivering it! [src]

The Jorgenson Ceremonial Axe is a display weapon used by House Jorgenson in wedding ceremonies.

History[]

Dragons: Race to the Edge, Season 2[]

According to Snotlout Jorgenson, the axe was present at every wedding that involved the Jorgensons to cut down the Betrothal Birch. The Jorgenson ceremonial axe appears solely in the episode "Snotlout Gets the Axe", where three years after the Berserker War, Snotlout's father, Spitelout Jorgenson presented him with the axe on Dragon's Edge. Snotlout was to deliver to the Island of Friga for a binding wedding between the Jorgensons and the Hoffersons. However, enroute to the island, Snotlout dropped the axe on Iron Isle. It was then taken by the Armorwing, Bandit, and the episode centered around Snotlout and the Gang attempting to retrieve the axe, with Snotlout constantly worrying about facing the wrath of his father when he turned up axeless. They eventually got it back when they lured some Smothering Smokebreaths to Iron Isle to steal it from the Armorwing for them. But he never makes it in time for the ceremony.

Function[]

This axe is used by Jorgenson's for ceremonies to chop down the ceremonial birch. It displays the Jorgenson's traditional weapon: the axe.

Trivia[]

  • This could be a reference to an actual Viking marriage ritual, but instead of a ceremonial axe, Ceremonial swords from the bride and groom’s families would be used to perform the ritual.
