  — DreamworksTV[1]

Major Events[]

  • Fishlegs is hypnotized into Thor Bonecrusher again, but this time by Snotlout.
  • Alvin makes his first Race to the Edge debut.
  • Viggo is revealed to have survived the volcano.

Plot[]

Krogan, draped in his hood, walks through a shady looking tavern full of Vikings. He sees a familiar-looking man sulking by himself at a table and grins deviously as he approaches. Krogan approaches the man and tells him that he's hard to find and apparently harder to kill. The mysterious man speaks with a familiar voice as he asks Krogan what he wants from him. Krogan replies saying that the man is asking the wrong question. He offers a proposal, saying that the real question, in fact, is "What can we do for each other?"

Outcasts arrive unexpectedly on the shores of the Edge, disguised as women, which annoys Snotlout. They say that their chief Alvin has been captured by bandits, but when Hiccup offers to help, they insist that they need none other than Fishlegs as Thor Bonecrusher to rescue him. Snotlout, who had worshipped the ground Fishlegs' counterpart had walked on, enthusiastically agrees to the idea, but Hiccup forcefully pushes it aside. Later, at a Dragon Rider meeting, Snotlout tells everyone what the Outcasts said, and exclaims that Thor is the solution. Hiccup says it's a bad idea, reminding everyone of what happened last time Fishlegs had become Thor Bonecrusher.

Snotlout later invites a curious Fishlegs, who has obviously never met his alter ego, to his hut to tell him all the marvelous stories of Thor Bonecrusher. Fishlegs agrees to help and asks Snotlout to hypnotize him with a ball and chain. However, he firmly insists Snotlout make him love Meatlug, as the last time, his alternate personality had decided to push her aside in favour of a more fearsome dragon. Fishlegs also requests that Snotlout create an easy way to snap him out of his trance, (as to avoid the difficulty the Riders had faced trying to bring him back to himself he first time he had been hypnotized), as well as to make him a bit less heroic than before. Snotlout abides by the first two requests, adding affection for Meatlug to Thor's personality, and ensuring that he will snap out of the hypnosis when he claps three times. However, he misinterprets Fishlegs' last request to be more mindful as being "anti-heroic" instead. Upon waking, the Fishlegs-turned-Bonecrusher salutes Snotlout and embraces Meatlug.

Once on Outcast Island, Bonecrusher performs various stunts that awe the Outcasts, who reveal that the bandits only ever ask for Ice Tail Pike, a unique fish endemic to Outcast Island, as opposed to gold or other goods. The entire time, he pays little attention to the constantly over-enthusiastic Snotlout, often pinching his neck, which seems to cause the Viking to immediately collapse, which does nothing to dull Snotlout's spirits. Thor instructs the Outcasts to hide inside the wagon of fish, and to jump out and fire into the air to signal to him. At first, everything seems to be going to plan. Then Thor double-crosses the Outcasts, revealing their location to the bandits.

Snotlout, broken-hearted at his hero's betrayal, explains what happened to the other Riders. Hiccup is angered that Snotlout not only brought back Thor Bonecrusher without telling them, but that he made him 'anti-heroic,' causing the former hero to become villainous. The Riders are exasperated at having to rescue not only Alvin, but Fishlegs as well.

Meanwhile, Bonecrusher is questioned by the bandits, who notice his resemblance to Fishlegs. He manages to impress them by taking down their commander, Jarg with astonishing ease. He then decides to lead the bandits and prepares them for the riders' inevitable parry. After nightfall, the Riders find an underwater entrance to the island using Toothless's sonar rays. However, they find the underground cavern already lit with torches, as if someone was expecting them... Suddenly, hidden arrows and nets are fired, entangling Barf and Belch. Snotlout becomes dizzy trying to clap and steer at the same time, and accidentally drives Hookfang into a stalactite. Everyone but Snotlout manages to escape the cave, including a reluctant Hookfang.

Snotlout wakes up, hanging upside down in a cell opposite to Alvin. Thor interrogates Snotlout, to no avail. He then demands that they take gold from the Outcasts instead of fish. The other Riders decide they need to formulate a plan Fishlegs wouldn't expect. They return to the bandits' base, this time with a white flag of surrender, and bring Meatlug as a peace offering, only for Thor to accept the 'third hostage.' Then Astrid interrupts, saying that now he only has two, having freed Snotlout already.

Battle breaks out, and Snotlout finally manages to clap three times to bring Fishlegs out of hypnosis, but it doesn't seem to work. The remaining Riders regroup back at the Edge while Snotlout is continued to be held as a hostage. Thor sends Meatlug to the Edge with a message, and the Riders soon arrive ready to meet the demands. As it turns out, the clapping did work and it was Fishlegs, not Thor, that came up with the rescue plan after that and caught the bandits off guard, showing he's had Thor's warrior spirit in him all along. Alvin and his Outcasts are freed, and the bandits are locked in the holding cells. Snotlout finally gains some respect for the real Fishlegs, and is glad to have him back. Hiccup finds Astrid frowning in thought, who is still pondering why the Dragon Hunters needed all the Ice Tail Pike for.

Meanwhile, the bandits report to Krogan that the Ice Tail Pike fish they were demanding for ransom for Alvin was a failure. Krogan's new partner is revealed to be none other than a very-much-alive Viggo Grimborn, who agrees that tougher measures will be taken in the future to ensure they don't fail again. Upon turning, it is revealed that the left side of his face was burned and scarred by the volcano.

Trivia[]

  • Viggo is seen to be officially alive, but with the left side of his face horribly burned, and his left eye now blinded.
  • Flashbacks are seen from the episode "Big Man on Berk".
  • This is the second and last appearance of Thor Bonecrusher in Dragons: Race to the Edge.
  • The way the Outcasts disguise themselves as women is similar to how two Roman soldiers disguised themselves as Bog-Burglars in "How to Speak Dragonese".
  • This is the first episode that Viggo appears in that Ryker doesn’t.
  • Viggo remarks that, were it up to him, the traitorous Hunter would have been thrown into a Whispering Death hole. This could be a call-back to "Maces and Talons, Part 2", where Ryker suggested punishing Heather with the former, but Viggo disagreed, showing how his experience in the volcano may have changed him.
