- "There were Razorwings and Tongue-twisters, Brainpickers and Savagers, some of the scariest dragon species of the dragon rebellion. ... One Savager was gnawing at the ragged remains of a gigantic tree in his sleep, a tree torn violently and entirely out of the ground, its poor tender roots spilled out like a desecration."
- ―How to Betray a Dragon's Hero
Savagers are a dangerous dragon species mentioned in several of the later books in the How to Train Your Dragon Book series.
There is no pictorial reference or description of Savagers in the Book Series, but they are mentioned in the Dragon Key in The Incomplete Book of Dragons. They are classified as Sea Dragons and have "extra-scary teeth".
Savager eggs are shown to have a typical egg shape and a light brown color with some darker flecks.
Savagers are shown to be vulnerable against heavy artillery fire:
- "Even might Rageblasts, or Savagers, or Brainpickers, when hit with those cannonballs, fell shrieking from the sky."
- ―How to Fight a Dragon's Fury
